Cook your own meals. If you don’t know how to cook, it is time to learn. You’ll be surprised how easy it is and how much money you can save on groceries.
Start out with a good cookbook from the library; Then if you find one you really like and will use often, go ahead and buy it. Look online for easy recipes and try making a few things.
If you have a friend or relative who is a good cook; Ask them for tips, recipes, or to teach you how to cook. Also, ask them for advice on how they save money on groceries.
Check for sales and use coupons Before you make out your shopping list, check the newspaper for sales, and sort through your coupons.

Plan your meals before you shop Before you go shopping, make a list of everything that you need and another list of the meals you will cook.
Check your cupboards for what you already have on-hand. If you have some items that will make a meal, plan to make them during the next week. Now, decide what you will make for the other meals.
Every meal does not have to include meat. You will save money if you plan a few meatless meals. Some meals can be pasta with a green salad, then the next night serve sausage. Maybe one night have sandwiches. If you have leftovers, use them to make soup.
Pack lunches, instead of eating out everyday. As a working mom, you can save money by packing your lunch and the kids lunches too. Add everything you need for all the lunches to your grocery list.
Save time and money, by planning your meals. You won't have to worry about what you'll be cooking each day after work, you will already have it planned.
No more running to the store several times a week, which wastes time and money.
Your family won't be eating fast food, they will definitely be eating healthier.
If you can leave the kids at home while you shop, that will cut down on treats and toys for the kids. If you have to take the kids with you while shopping, make sure you set limits and don’t give in to any tantrums.
